No, it's not another pointless sub-genre, but a neat way of summing up a recent study by Chris Supranowitz, a researcher at the University of Rochester who has put the unassuming grooves of a vinyl record under an electron microscope. The results are really spectacular, who'd have thought something so closely resembling the Grand Canyon was hidden away in your music collection?!
